Our IT projects and initiatives aim to improve and expand critical technologies used by Penn State students, faculty, and staff. We focus on work that can enhance their collective experiences in teaching, learning, researching, and conducting business.
Active
Penn State Wireless
Beginning April 1, Penn State is replacing the psu wireless network with eduroam as the University’s primary network. The existing psu network will be retired on June 30. Learn more about the Penn State Wireless project.
Telephony Transformation
Penn State is transitioning faculty and staff from Cisco telephony to Microsoft Teams Phone and Microsoft Teams-to-Teams Calling. The switch to Microsoft Teams will improve operational efficiencies and streamline the functionality of existing enterprise IT services as well as leverage the University’s strategic investment in Microsoft while reducing spend on redundant or duplicative technologies. IT Optimized Service Team (OST)
Penn State IT OST team leads and staff members engaged with 64 units across all campuses to create a “current state” report that inventoried existing IT systems, personnel, and contracts. This effort is part of Penn State Road Map to modernize our operations and support the implementation of strategic priorities.
Learning Analytics: Educational Insights at Penn State
In the dynamic landscape of higher education, universities are actively seeking ways to enhance the student learning experience and its resultant outcomes. Learning analytics have emerged as a powerful tool in this pursuit, leveraging technologies to collect, analyze, and interpret educational data in order to provide valuable insights into student behavior, learning patterns, and potential challenges. Penn State IT actively develops and supports a collaborative institutional investment in learning analytics designed to help empower academic advisers, instructors, and administrators, improve student success and inform educational decision-making.
Completed
Box Migration and Retirement of Service
Migration of the University’s Box data began in October 2020, and Box cloud storage will be retired at Penn State in March 2022. Student, faculty, and staff files are being migrated to Microsoft Office 365’s OneDrive. This move will help save on expenses to the University, simplify support, and allow us to leverage existing storage offerings.
WebSSO Modernization
On July 7, 2021, Penn State unveiled a modern web single sign-on (SSO) process that replaced the outdated WebAccess. The upgraded sign-on system gives Penn State Account holders the convenience and security of logging in to online applications with a single user ID and password. Powered by Microsoft Azure, Penn State’s new SSO improves the University’s digital security and reduces risks to data and information.
